Tennessee Secretary of State Certifies Presidential Candidates for 2024 Super Tuesday Ballot

The Tennessee Secretary of State’s Office announced it certified the names of nine Republicans and one Democratic presidential candidate for the Super Tuesday Presidential Preference Primary and County Primary Election.

The 2024 Tennessee presidential primary will be held on the same day as primaries in 14 other states on March 5, 2024, known as Super Tuesday.

The following Republican candidates, listed in alphabetical order, will be on Tennessee’s March 5, 2024 ballot:

  • Ryan Binkley
  • Doug Burgum
  • Chris Christie
  • Ron DeSantis
  • Nikki Haley
  • Asa Hutchinson
  • Vivek Ramaswamy
  • David Stuckenberg
  • Donald J. Trump

Incumbent President Joseph R. Biden is the only candidate currently certified for Tennessee’s March 5, 2024 ballot, however, the Secretary of State’s office noted that Democratic candidate Dean Phillips filed a petition to seek ballot access.

Phillips’ nominating petition, which was signed by two thousand five hundred (2,500) registered voters, will be reviewed by county election commissions who will determine if he has met the threshold to be added to the Mach 5, 2024 ballot.

“I encourage these candidates to visit Tennessee and hear the thoughts and concerns of Tennessee voters,” Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett said in a statement. “I believe if these candidates follow Tennessee’s lead, our nation will be stronger for future generations.”

Presidential primary candidates have until Tuesday, December 12 at noon to withdraw their name from the March 5, 2024 ballot.

FiveThirtyEight’s national polling tracker, as of Wednesday, December 6, shows Trump in the lead with 59.6 percent compared to DeSantis’ 12.7 percent, Haley’s 10.6 percent, Ramaswamy’s 4.9 percent, and Christie’s 2.7 percent in the GOP primary.

Regarding the Democratic primary, FiveThirtyEight’s national polling tracker shows Biden in the lead with 66.8 percent compared to Marianne Williamson’s 8.4 percent and Phillips’ 5.8 percent.

A recent poll by the Nashville-based Beacon Center of Tennessee showed Trump with a 31-point lead (61 percent-30 percent) over Joe Biden in a head-to-head matchup in the Volunteer State.
